Can Debt Reduction Help the Consumer?
Closely looking at debt reduction ever since World War I, our federal
government has tracked both the spending habits of Americans and the amount of
money they have in savings. This wasn’t such a big deal until the sixties, when
spending began to rise while savings slowly declined. Debt reduction was
important then, and just as important today. Even our federal government runs on
an unbalanced budget!

Over 50 per cent of Americans now spend more than they save. This means that a
lot of people are living paycheck to paycheck with little or no savings. Sure,
they have beautiful homes and expensive cars, but if they had no income due to
sickness or job loss, they would sink fast. Developing a debt reduction plan is
always good; whether the consumer is a millionaire, or right out of college,
almost everyone has debt. Once someone makes up their mind to reduce the amount
of debt they are in, they have taken responsibility for their personal lives.
Decreasing debt can change ones health. Not worrying about how to pay for
something can lower blood pressure and the stress ones body feels also begins to
lower. Don’t run the daily rat race and don’t feel the need to out spend the
neighbors. As long as the consumer changes his outlook, there will be no debt
reduction solution.
How to Change Bad Spending Habits
When someone has lived week to week and is competing against everyone else in
the neighborhood, debt reduction help seems like a slap across the face. What
some people refuse to see is that the debt must get paid. Whether the individual
realizes this or the next of kin, someone must pay for stuff or give it back to
the bank. Life is hard by itself, giving the next generation a load of debt
won’t help anyone.
One can begin to change spending habits starting today. The consumer needs to
make this decision or it will continue to simmer in the background. Forget what
everyone else is doing, and take control. This may seem like it will
take forever, but it really will not. All extra debt will
be paid leaving the consumer with a lot of extra income. Instead of having to
pay a monthly bill, save up and pay cash for most things. Your body, bank
account, and creditors will thank you. Life will be new and fresh and fun to
live. Take the step and begin right now.
